In the age of covid, we are planning a lot of weddings as far out as 2023. I want to speak to what trends we are seeing for our 2022 weddings. White Weddings! We are seeing white bridesmaids dresses, and beautiful lush white flowers without much greenery.

You say “What?”

It’s traditional…

While most people think that bridesmaids wearing white has always been taboo, you don’t have to look that far back to when it was a tradition. You heard it right: traditionally, the bride would also have her bridesmaids wearing white in order to confuse any evil spirits, safely disguising the bride among the group.

Remember that dressing your bridesmaids in this pure colour was designed to tie you together. Attendants wearing white can complement your dress perfectly. Just make sure you pay attention to the shade of white you choose works with each other. There are many, many shades of white. While some of the spiritual associations may have diminished , this custom lasted well into the Victorian era. When Queen Victoria married Prince Albert in 1840, her 12 bridesmaids wore white dresses to complement the Queen’s satin gown. Victoria and her entourage made such an elegant image of grace and fertility that white dresses quickly replaced the old tradition of the upper class wearing silver on their wedding days.

So you ask if everything is all white, isn’t it boring? “NO” There are so many shades of white and also that where you bring in different textures and materials. And CANDLELIGHT, whats prettier than shades of whites and candlelight?

If you would like to think about planning an all white wedding, here are some things you need to think about. How do I bring in the drama?

Flowers: think about the following flowers, depending on season

  • white phalaenopsis Orchids

  • white dendrobium Orchids

  • White garden roses, typically more expensive but worth it

  • white roses

  • white stock

  • white dahlias

  • white anthuriums, especially if you want a bit of contemporary look

  • white agapanthus

  • white hydrangea

  • white tulips

  • and on, and on……………

Decor, think about these different ideas

  • draping

  • candlelight, all kinds of shapes and styles

  • lighting, maybe twinkle lights or crystal chandliers, and don’t forget uplighting!

  • glass to reflect all the candlelight

  • linens, you may want to consider having two different white cloths with different textures

  • Think about the drama of having just one color en mass, that creates drama just on its own. Don’t be tempted to sneak another color in, it will diminish the wow effect!

It definitely takes a leap of faith to choose an all white wedding, but if you are brave enough, we would love the opportunity here at The French Bee to make the leap with you and help you plan a stunning white wedding. We love to work with different ideas and we love challenges on planning and executing a wedding that are a total reflection of the couples journey and styles and ideas.
